WCHH, Inc. Housing Services
This is one of our most thriving programs here at WCHH.
The thought of eviction is hard to deal with. Falling behind in all your bills including your rent is hard to address for the average person.
Tens of thousands of people each year face this issue and look for assistance.
The Westchester Coalition for the Hungry & Homeless has provided an Eviction Prevention Program for over 10 years. We have assisted over 2,500 families in 2010 through assessment, mediation, conict resolution and, when available, the use of financial assistance. The maximum amount a client can receive is one month’s rent. The Eviction Prevention Program is in partnership and administered by several other private nonprot community-based social service agencies including WCHH throughout Westchester County.
The Eviction Prevention Program’s primary goal is to assist low and moderate income tenants who are facing an immediate eviction. It is intended to provide short term relief, and is not a program that people can turn to month after month for aid.
The exact criteria will vary based upon the program offered, but in general the applicant needs to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the local agency the reason they are behind on their rent. The issue must be beyond their ability to control, i.e. loss of job/income or an emergency situation and must it be documentable.
We are proud of this initiative and look forward to introducing more programs that address the needs of all Westchester County residents in the upcoming year.
