HEARTH FOR ALL'S First Annual Sleep for Solutions
May 23,2010 07:00 AMHEARTH For All’s first annual Sleep for Solutions will be held on May 22, 2010. The kick-off rally will be held from 8pm-9pm, and the Sleep-a-Thon from 9pm-7am the following morning.
Sleep for Solutions is an all-night event designed to promote awareness and empathy for the homeless, as well as raise money to provide relief directly to the homeless. By sleeping outside for a night, be it on the ground, in sleeping bags, on blankets, or even on a cardboard box, participants of all ages are invited to consider the experiences of the homeless, just for a night. There is a minimum contribution of $25 per person to the cause (enough money to feed a family in a shelter for one night), which participants may either donate themselves and/or collect from sponsors. Participants are encouraged to raise additional donations from commercial and/or individual sponsors, as the more money we raise, the more we can help the homeless. All donations are tax-deductible. The Westmore News will interview the individual or family who raises the most money for this cause. Participants may bring a bag of supplies for the night, including flashlights and blankets, and are encouraged to donate the items the following morning to the homeless population. Participants may also opt to bring any new or used clothing and toiletries to donate. All residents of Rye Brook, NY are welcome to attend the event, however anyone at all may donate to the cause. A rally is planned to kick-off the evening, with guest speakers from the sponsoring organizations, as well as speakers who have themselves experienced homelessness. From 8 to 9pm on May 22, Daniel Ullman, the Founder of HEARTH For All, Rosa Boone, the Executive Director of the Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless, Inc., Mayor Joan Feinstein of Rye Brook, and our homeless guests will all say a few words. The venue is the Rye Brook Village Athletic Field, at 840 King Street, Rye Brook, NY 10573. Participants are encouraged to carpool to the event, and park in the Blind Brook High School parking lot. People may not bring food, as the homeless do not always have something to eat. Water is permissible, and the village bathrooms will be open. Sleep for Solutions is an all-weather event because homelessness does not have a rain date. Registration Event almost over! |
